Having lived in the bustling metropolises of Mumbai and Los Angeles, I cherished the time when I used to visit my grandparents in Varanasi, the historic Indian city on the bank of River Ganges. My granddad would take me to our farms, where a host of grains and crops were cultivated. Back then, I was too young to understand how one feels connected to the land. However, I had slowly fallen in love with nature and the heartland during those summer visits to Varanasi. Many years later, after finishing my film degree and establishing myself as a successful professional, I visited the tea estates in the Himalayan foothills. My strolls on the quiet and hazy trails, traversing through the lush green tea farms, had me in a state of trance. There, I had an epiphany. This strong sentiment pushed me to establish something where I could cater to all those who are like me: busy urbanites connected to the heartland through “chai.” That was the genesis of Veda Tea—a passion project for my love for tea, nature, and culture. For me, tea is more than a hot caffeine beverage. It is an amazing blend of many things. It is a natural wellness product that contains antioxidants and many micronutrients. It is a gift that reminds us of the unhindered beauty of our north-eastern landscape. Above all, it is something that represents the centuries-old tradition of having quality time with loved ones over a cup of tea— a habit that is Indian in every sense of the word. As the founder of Veda Tea, I have made it a point to represent all these diverse attributes of “chai” in the tea strains we offer our consumers.
